5 Signs Your Daily Management Board Has Become Theater
A board that gets updated but doesn't change anything isn't daily management, it's decoration. Here are five signs the habit has become theater.
Each cell gets Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost against target each day. You type in three. Cost fills in from logged scrap. Fixed rules set every color, so every board and the TV score it the same way.
Free forever: 1 department, 2 cells, 1 user · No card
SQDC is four numbers per cell per day: Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost. Each has a target. At the huddle the team looks at what's red and decides who owns it.
On a whiteboard the color depends on who holds the marker. The month gets erased. In ShopBoard the numbers set the color, and last month is still there.
On the cell board, click a day in the month grid. Then click Edit (or + Add data) on the Safety, Quality or Delivery card. Enter the target, the actual and a note if needed. Safety counts incidents. Quality and Delivery are percentages, with targets from the cell settings (98% and 95% to start).
Log a scrapped part with + Scrap and ShopBoard writes that day's Cost for the cell. It totals the scrap in units and in dollars, at quantity × unit cost. Delete a scrap entry, or change its quantity or cost, and the total is redone. Moving an entry to another day or cell leaves the old day's total as it was. Nobody types Cost in.
Each letter gets a month grid, so a run of red stands out. Click today or an earlier day to see its four cards, its hour-by-hour and any issues logged. Log an issue from any card.
The facility board shows today for every cell, grouped by department. A cell's top bar turns red if any letter is red. Each department gets one dot per letter, colored by its worst cell. On the department board, Safety and Cost tiles add up the cells and take the worst color. Quality and Delivery tiles average the cells.
Switch a department or cell board from Desktop to Wall. It fills the browser window with big numbers, the month grid, hour-by-hour and open issues. The header counts the metrics off target. The cursor hides after 5 seconds without movement, and the board reloads every 60 seconds.
| Green | Yellow | Red | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Safety (incidents) | 0 | No yellow | 1 or more |
| Quality and Delivery (%) | At or above target | 90% of target to just under it | Under 90% of target |
| Cost with a target | At or under target | Up to 10% over | More than 10% over |
| Cost with no target | $0 | Up to $500 | Over $500 |
Nobody picks the color or changes these rules. Safety ignores its target. Settings has no Cost target field, so Cost uses the $0 / $500 rule unless a target comes in by CSV.
Plant managers and CI leads at machine, fab and assembly shops who want one set of color rules on every cell and one screen for the plant. A GM built it and runs it every morning at a 17-cell plant with two shifts.
It's a poor fit if you need your own metrics or color rules, or SQDC by shift.
No. Quality and Delivery go yellow under target and red under 90% of it. Safety is red at one incident. Cost is red more than 10% over target, or over $500 with no target.
From the scrap logged against the cell that day, at quantity × unit cost. Rework cost isn't included. Past Cost rows can also come in by CSV import.
Yes. A manager imports them by CSV in Settings: cell name, date, letter, target and actual. The color is worked out on import.
Yes. Every plan gets the full SQDC board, department roll-up and wall view. Free is 1 department, 2 cells and 1 user. A TV on Free signs in as that one user. The AI Lean Coach starts on Professional.

A minute-by-minute tier 1 meeting agenda for a production cell: the order, the time budget, who talks, who stays quiet, and what to cut when it runs long.
Most manufacturing floors still run daily management on a whiteboard. Here's what that costs in missed patterns, and what a digital SQDC board changes.
